After the BMW Z3 had starred in the James Bond movies, alongside the firm’s Z8 and 7 Series cars, the two-seat Z3 was replaced by the BMW Z4 in 2003. More muscular, more manly and featuring a sharp look created under BMW design Supremo Chris Bangle the Z4’s appeal was far-reaching.

Solely petrol-powered, with a 2-litre four-cylinder and 2.5 plus 3-litre straight-six engines, we’d recommend the latter pairing for their added refinement and sub seven-second 0-62mph times.

By 2006 the car had received a mild facelift and tweaked engines, and a Z4 Coupe joined the range alongside a Z4M model which was available as both Coupe and Roadster. With 343bhp from its 3.2-litre straight-six petrol engine the Z4M could accelerate from 0-62mph in five seconds.
