Capitalising on the market growth for large luxurious Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), 2006 saw the market debut for the first generation Audi Q7.

Rivalling similar 4x4s with seven seats, the Q7 was a foil for the Land Rover Discovery, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and Volvo XC90

Originally powered by a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, all with Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system, the Q7 was built on a lengthened version of the platform that underpinned the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.

Over time the inefficient petrol engines were pared back but that wasn’t before Audi fitted the Q7 with the world’s only V12 diesel engine.
